"WE NEED A MAIZE SHED," GOVT TOLD - MWEEMBA

KAZUNGULA- Farmers in Lupani area of chief sekute in Kazungula District have called on government to put up a maize depot to facilitate the sale of agricultural products nearby to farmers.

A named famer has cried foul due to the lose he made during the 2021/22 farming season.

Mr. Armstrong Mweemba said that he sold 300 by 50KGs of maize at a stick low price, which he said was a result of having no proper storage where to store his extra produce.
Mr. Mweemba said this was during  this year's flash floods in February when his maize got soaked by the rains, which later forced him to sale the maize at a very cheap rate compared to how he would sell in other areas where there is a maize shed or an FRA depot.

He has however called on government to speed up FISP Program, Mr. Mweemba said the delay in fertilizer distribution has also affected his harvest in this season. The growth of crops and attacks from army worms coupled with flash floods that were noticed in this year's farming season would have been defeated through the fast application of fertilizer to speed up the plants growth.
